SACACA
Our first project is based in the town of Sacaca, located fifteen Sacaca School Beforeminutes from Pisac (A major tourist destination in the Sacred Valley of the Incas). Over the course of the last two years, we have taken a dilapidated and moldy school and helped to turn it into the best school in the region. First and foremost, we have furnished the school with eight computers; moreover, every Friday we pay for a computer teacher who goes to the school and gives the students basic computer lessons. Furthermore,Sacaca After we have repainted the interior and the exterior of the school, provided the students with basic school supplies, bought uniforms for the children and funded the building of a school greenhouse. At the same time, we have bought basic cleaning supplies, re-sanded and re-varnished all of the desks in the school and paid for brand new soccer nets for the school. For anyone who visits the school, it is quite clear that the support of our organization has brought about real change in the area.

YANAHUARA
In February of 2008, with the Yanahuara Beforeco-operation of the Ministry of Education in Cusco, we started working with a new school and community in the region of Yanahuara. In the seven months that we have been working with the school community, we have provided funding for the construction of bathrooms, a school garden and the renovation of several classrooms. Moreover, we have provided money for a computer teacher who is responsible for teaching the senior grades basic computer skills. According to the principal of the school, since we started providing Yanahuara Garden Projectcomputer lessons in the school, attendance has gone up notably. We are now in the process of funding a school farming project which will give the students the chance to learn tangible farming skills; this will help to increase stability in their own homes and the greater community.

SUNKHO
Last year, fundraising for Learning for Hope became a regional project. Originally, money for the project came exclusively from the St. Mary community. However, last year, various elementary schools , the Hispanic Alliance and people across the Durham Region contributed money, athletic equipment and school supplies to the project.  As a result, Learning for Hope was able to adopt two more school communities.

The first school was Sunkho. The school of Sunkho now has a computer lab and the students receive SUNHO Computer Labweekly computer classes. Money from the project also paid for the completion of the school bathrooms and a school theatre/dining room. Also, this summer, members of the Learning for Hope community repainted the school; they constructed a staircase and they also prepared and equipped a school orchard. The students in Sunkho will now learn how to grow a variety of vegetables, which will help to balance their diet.

PARU PARU
The second school was Paru Paru. Located 4000 meters above sea level, the students of Paru Paru live in extreme poverty. However, despite their poverty, when Carmen Munoz Franco (the Peruvian face of Learning for Hope) arrived in March, she was received with celebrations and performances. One of the performances included a group of four students singing and playing card board guitars. Upon further investigation, she discovered that the school had a music PARU PARUteacher, but only a few instruments. As a result, this summer, members of the Learning for Hope community purchased close to 50 musical instruments for the school, including a real guitar. Because of the generosity and the time of people here in Canada, the students in the region have been given the gift of music. Paru Paru is also home to three beautiful lagoons, and a school fish farm is in the works.

HOGAR SAN FRANCISCO DE ASIS
This year we will begin working with Paru Par UnitsHogar San Francisco de Asis, a school for hearing impaired children from the region of Cusco.  We will fund computer classes and sewing classes for the students.  This will give the students of the school a chance to learn skills that will make a big difference in their lives.
